Reportedly, Man of Steel is on pace for a $113 million Friday-Sunday weekend haul, which would make it the biggest June opening ever ahead of 2010’s Toy Story 3. That’s good news.
Now, what will be interesting is to see how the film holds up in the coming weeks with such competition as World War Z and especially Monsters University.
Going by IMDb and other fan metrics, fans seem to be taking to this film; whereas critics have been mostly mixed with a current 56% rating on Rottentomatoes.
Honestly, none of that is surprising. Zack Snyder, the director of the film, is not new to making polarizing films. Others like 300 and Watchmen, especially, were quite polarizing in their own right. And I think polarizing is good.
If you hear people split going, “I love this film!” or “I hate this film!”, then you’re probably wanting to see it for yourself to see what all the fuss is about. At least, that’s my hope and therefore, Man of Steel will have “box office legs” as it were. We’ll see.
