Haiku Challenge for Dec. 7: ‘Believe’

Creative Commons photo.

Today’s haiku challenge:

My style is the five/seven/five syllable structure. Here are my 10 haiku poems:

to believe in us
is to believe a fiction
collecting pain dust.

to believe in us
is like holding onto a
snowflake in warm hands.

to believe in us
is a malignant tumor
I can’t stop growing.

to believe in us
is keeping a foot stuck in
a past “we” exists.

to believe in us
is pulling in depression —
attached like a kite.

to believe in us
is drowning, flailing as you
walk away, eyes down.

to believe in us
is sipping on a morphine
drip waiting for you.

to believe in us
is trying to breathe through a
pillow soaked with tears.

to believe in us
is a fun house of mirrors
only showing me.

hope is to believe
in tomorrow despite the
pain in the present.
