First off, Goodreads is awesome and everyone should go to the site, if you love books. Anyhow, I found this infographic fascinating. Let’s break it down…
The first of the books, I have two unfinished; J.K.’s and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. No real reason. I’m just a bit whimsical when it comes to books.
I’m astonished at myself for still having not read Catch-22. I did, however, read all the way through The Fountainhead, but not Alas Shrugged. I haven’t even started it.
As for the reasons offered by people for why they stopped reading a book. Well, I’ve never not wanted to finish a book, so my experiences aren’t really applicable. Even if I don’t like a book, I’ll finish it all the way through. I’ve gotten to the point now where I’m damn good at judging whether I’ll enjoy a book or not. (The whole don’t judge a book by its cover is not really apt.) However, of the books I did not care for as much, but still finished, I would say the number one complaint I had was just weak writing.
And what keeps me turning pages? Generally, to see what happens next, duh. Yet, also, “come back to it at the right time” is fitting, as I’m very much a mood reader. I can only read certain things when I’m in the right frame of mind for them.
Jeez, I don’t understand how anyone could let go of a book after one little chapter. That’s not fair at all. Good to see most still finish no matter what. Cool stuff.
