Haiku Challenge for Sept. 6: ‘Public’

Today’s haiku challenge:

My style is the five/seven/five syllable structure. Here are my 10 haiku poems:

the public face of
depression is a forced smile,
and some feigned laughter.

the public face of
depression is a tight mask,
squeezing darkness in.

the public face of
depression is performance
by acting okay.

the public face of
depression is robotic,
getting through the day.

the public face of
depression is nobody
seeing any pain.

the public face of
anxiety is hiding
sweaty hands and fear.

the public face of
anxiety is hiding
the overthinking.

in public, blending
in, trying to be alone
with everyone here.

the bees move through public
space, unintentionally
scaring everyone.

if the lion was
in public, then people would
rightly be scared — run.
