“Lip Shtick” from Texas Monthly

I came across “Lip Shtick” from Texas Monthly by Pamela Colloff recently. It’s a very interesting writeup on fashion, makeup and the behavior of women in Dallas, Texas.

Beauty and what we do to obtain it and present it is fascinating from assorted types of makeup for the eyes, lips, cheeks, eyebrows, eyelashes, etc. to fashion to accessories to actual cosmetic surgery; it’s all quite interesting.

Personally, with respect to women, I think makeup is fine. It’s a great tool to accentuate one’s beauty, if applied properly. If applied too thickly, unevenly or completely dismissed out of hand, then that becomes apparent in the physical appearance of the person.

Cosmetic surgery on the other hand, I find to be too much. If you’re doing it for a specific reason such as to cover up a scar from a cancer treatment (I’ve known someone to do that), then it seems obviously okay. However, to stretch out your skin at twenty years old because of “wrinkles” reflects a poor liking of one’s self, I think, to psychoanalyze the situation.

In any event, it’s interesting to see the other side (women) and what they do. Good and informative article on that front.
