If you’re not familiar with what Flash! Friday is, here’s the explainer. But in short, it’s a fun weekly contest of flash fiction writers, where each week a new picture prompt, “element” prompt (based on fire and ice), and a limited word count is given, and writers have 24 hours to submit their story. By Monday, the judges pick a winner.
The Aug. 21 prompt was this picture:

The additional prompt was a requirement to either include a revolutionary (fire) or include a droid (ice). The word count was 75 words exactly.
You can read the full results here.
My entry had a word count of 75 words, obviously, and used the element of ice. Here is my entry:
At a motel near the market, Chet injected again; the needle always found a new home along his veins. Back in the city he hadn’t seen since he was a boy, Chet thought familiar roots would detach the ingrown ones he’d developed, but they were stubborn.
Like a candle wick aflame, warmth overtook him, and he slumped against the wallpaper.
His fragrance was stale piss and vinegar — a smell she could no longer handle.
Stop saying “fun” in regards to writing ffs. Lol. Anyway, disappointing that you didn’t place. Damn good story. Keep writing like that and you’ll get that 2nd win. Unc won it 5 times BTW. Wut

I sense I’m going to need to do a sequel to my writing post, ha. But thanks, man. I thought the HMs, runner-ups and winner were all pretty solid this week. Not too shabby.

I don’t remember who wrote what besides Karl. His was fine. Wouldn’t have been my choice, but can’t really argue against it.
