Poem: Bogged Down

So peaceful once you emerged.

One of my favorite spots we hit in Maine these past few days incidentally was the last one: The Orono Bog Boardwalk. This Boardwalk wasn’t too far from Stephen King’s House actually, but nonetheless, the walks 1-mile loop began in the Bangor City Forest, and then crossed the Orono town line into the Orono Bog maintained by the University of Maine. I will have more I want to say about the Bog in a future blog post, but for now, let an original, five-line poem suffice.

Bogged Down

when i emerged from without you
the vegetation smelled anew of death;
blue skies became oppressive;
beneath, wetlands gurgled despair;
all the while, your shadow lingered.
