Periodically on my blog, I do a roundup of the latest music I’ve been listening to. However, it’s been a while since I’ve done that. The last one was back in April and the one before that was almost a full year ago at the beginning of the year in January. I don’t want to rehash those songs selected in those respective roundups, so check them out here and here. For what it’s worth, out of those two roundups, Father John Misty was the biggest revelation for me musically. He’s just terrific. But there’s some other gems in there, like Mulvey, The Swell Season, Marcus Foster and Patrick Sweany.

Mhmm, this is bringing back some earlier-in-the-year nostalgia for music I haven’t listened to in months, but had captivated me at a certain point in time. Isn’t music awesome like that?

Okay, so let’s get this started with music I’ve listened to since April. After all, that’s eight months of music to cover ground on. Probably the only order is the order in which I came across them in the year. And I’m not going to really include a blurb unless it’s technically necessary. I’ve got 27 songs here for you to sample. In many cases, however, the artist’s whole album from which the song derives from is worth listening to. And how great is Spotify? It makes this easy.

Sam Amidon, “Bright Sunny South”

Phosphorescent, “Sun, Arise! (An Invocation, An Introduction)”

Damon Albarn, “Everyday Robots,” “Hostiles”

Jim James, “State of the Art – A.E.I.O.U.”

Dan Michaelson and the Coastguards, “Evergreen, ” “Bones”

Beecake, “Soul Swimming”

Red Sparowes, “The Great Leap Forward Poured Down Upon Us One Day Like A Mighty Storm”

Damien Rice, “My Favorite Faded Fantasy,” “I Don’t Want to Change You,”

Kim Janssen, “Britten,”

Lera Lynn, “My Least Favorite Life,”

Laura Marling, “Warrior,”

JBM, “From Me To You and You To Me,”

Kendrick Lamar, “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” “m.A.A.d city” (listen to the whole To Pimp a Butterfly album, however)

Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard, “If You Want Me,”

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, “S.O.B.”

X Ambassadors, “Low Life,”

Dan Auerbach, “When the Night Comes,”

Hayden, “Elk-Lake Serenade,” (I’d recommend the entire album of the same name)

Houndmouth, “Run Around Sue,” (I’d recommend a lot of songs off their album Little Neon Limelight, however)

Deer Tick, “Goodbye, Dear Friend” (may be my favorite song on this whole list)

Dry the River, “Animals Skins – Acoustic,”

Armies, Gutter, Lombard, “Death,”

Jedi Mind Tricks, “Fraudulent Cloth (feat. Eamon)” (I’d recommend the whole album, The Thief and the Fallen)
