As I mentioned yesterday, I discovered through reading up on the poet William Carlos Williams that Imagism is the name for the poetry movement in the 20th century, which emphasized simple, direct poetry. I was inspired to try my hand at it, with a poem that came to me last night. I’m not trying to send this one out for publication; this is a blog special, if you will.
Ghost Dog
a middle of the night
hallway jaunt.
darkness
punctured
by the glow of the phone
to see if the darker shadow
is there:
the dog,
curled up, half-asleep,
listening for me,
but she’s not there
tonight.
