Poem: Kicking the Carcass Down the Road

Creative Commons photo.

My latest original five-line poem, inspired as is often the case by my dreams, and by music, and in particular, the title of this song:

Haunting.

Kicking the Carcass Down the Road

in my dreams, i kick the carcass of who i once was down the street;
it doesn’t quite roll or jangle like a can does, but hollow all the same,
and when i awaken, the carcass tries to amble up my brain stem,
like a different kind of jack shining its brilliant darkness to a world
trying its damndest to project light through dying eyes.
